Childhood and Adult Immunizations

All children need protection against Polio, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, HIB,  Measles, Mumps, and Rubella ,Chickenpox, Meningococcal, Men B, Pneumonia, Hep A and Hepatitis B, and RSV.  Some diseases may require a series of vaccinations, while others may require only one.  Ask about our Vaccines for Children  program to qualify for reduced price vaccinations. 

TDaP. Hepatitis B and A, RSV, Shingrix, seasonal Flu, Pneumonia and RSV are available for adults.  Tuberculin skin tests are available. Gardasil for females and males age 9-45 is also available.

Free Blood Pressure Clinics

Blood pressure checks are available at the Health Dept. daily. This is done as early intervention screening and clients are referred to their physicians if readings are not within the normal range.

Women’s Health and Contraceptives

Each month, a pap clinic is held at the Health Dept. by appointment only. Birth control pills and Depo-Provera are available for those who have had an annual pap and breast exam. Cost is based on income. Pregnancy tests and testing for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) and counseling/referrals are also available. All services are confidential regardless of age, and a sliding fee scale is applied so that charges are based on ability to pay.

Uninsured women over 21 may be eligible for free pap smears and women over 40 may be eligible for free mammograms. Further information available by calling 785-425-7352.

Child Health Assessments

Physicals that are required for day care and privately operated preschools can be performed by our assessment-certified registered nurses. Also a pre-admission physical is required for any child under 9 years of age who is entering the Kansas school system for the first time.

Kan Be Healthy screenings for Medicaid and Kancare recipients are performed by our registered nurses. 

Miscellaneous Injections

Nurses will give injections of a client’s prescribed medication with a physician’s order. These include special travel vaccines, B 12, and hormone injections. Allergy shots will not be given due to potential adverse reactions.

Blood Drawing Services

Cholesterol , Triglycerides, and Glucose (blood sugar) screening can be done by our registered nurses without a doctor’s order. Fasting is required for at least 8 hours before the blood is drawn. Results are usually available the following day.

All other blood draws must have a doctor’s order. A $7 charge applies to all draws done in the office and billed to Medicare or other insurance. This charge can be billed to most insurance plans. Non insured clients obtaining a blood draw at special public health rates must pay for services at the time of the draw.

Vision and Hearing Tests

Vision and Hearing screenings are available by appointment. 

WIC : Women, Infants & Children

WIC is a USDA sponsored food supplement program for pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 5 years old. Qualifications are certain income guidelines and a recognized need for better nutrition

Home Visiting Program

Our trained home visitor will do an in-home visit on families in Rooks County who have a new born and will provide families with information on available programs and infant health concerns.

Maternal & Infant Care Program

This program provides nutrition and health education, counseling, and financial medical assistance for families without insurance. 

Car Seat and Breast Pump Rental

Breast pumps can be rented for as long as needed. Car seats are for sale on a sliding fee scale.

Miscellaneous Services

Height/ Weight: Calibrated scales are available for infants, children and adults.

Urine Analysis: Basic check of a urine sample for sugar, protein, PH & blood.

Hemoglobin: A blood drop is obtained by a finger stick and is tested for anemia.

Blood Sugar: A basic glucose test is performed on a drop of blood obtained by a finger stick , checking for hyper (high) or hypo (low) glycemia

Colon Cancer Screening: A kit is provided for clients to take home and return to the office for testing.
